Integration is the basis for a strong supply chain and this was precisely the goal of the Foro de Proveeduría Automotriz held at Poliforum León on October 12 and 13. Guanajuato is now the regional leader in investment attraction, both national and international, with more than US$9.5 billion representing 200 projects and 67,900 jobs between September 2012 and September 2016.
As representative of the most dynamic automotive region in Mexico, the Automotive Cluster of Guanajuato (CLAUGTO) acted as the organizer for the 3rd edition of the event, aided by sponsors including Corrubox, Kaeser Compressors, Teklas, Telcel and Mobil SHC.
“Our vision consolidates day after day to promote the competitiveness of the automotive industry in the Bajio region through collaboration, cooperation and synergy among the multiple actors converging in the Automotive Cluster of Guanajuato,” states Fidel Otake, President of CLAUGTO and Vice President of GKN Driveline.
The event was directed to top managers and purchasing directors for OEMs, direct and indirect suppliers, as well as service providers involved in the automotive sector. Visitors had the opportunity to visit the 9,072 m2 expo where more than 360 companies gathered to showcase their products and services looking for new opportunities in this sector. This was a definite improvement over last year’s Forum when approximately 160 companies had a stand, generating more than MX$2.5 billion (US$130 million) in business opportunities.
The expo area was specifically laid out to help attendants identify companies that could satisfy their needs or that could represent potential business partners. Both direct and indirect suppliers had their own section, along with service and safety product providers. Additionally, there was a whole pavilion dedicated to some of CLAUGTO’s members, including MD Manufacturing, NSK, Kaeser Compressors, Dealba and DSV, among several others.
The Forum provided a grand space for networking opportunities as top executives filled the premises, both from companies with a stand and from external visitors. CLAUGTO also offered two spaces for people focused on generating new business. One of them was a networking area to casually meet with other attendants. The other was a B2B meeting space with more than 100 buyers looking to strengthen their local supply chain.
Among the buying companies were industry giants like Nissan, Volkswagen, FCA and Kenworth, as well as leading suppliers like MAHLE, Magna, Michelin, Getrag, Arbomex, as well as many others. Visitors could arrange a meeting with the purchasing directors of these companies without any previous contact, offering an excellent space to build new relationships.
The Forum was not only focused on the expo. Visitors also had an opportunity to attend the many conferences held by some of the most notable industry leaders. The event was inaugurated by Miguel Márquez Márquez, Governor of the State of Guanajuato and then the program was packed for Wednesday and Thursday with participants including Eduardo Solís, Executive President of AMIA; Óscar Albin, Executive President of INA and the Directors of the automotive clusters of Nuevo Leon, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi.
The automotive industry keeps growing and the success of events like the Foro de Proveeduría Automotriz makes it evident. As more companies join the initiative, the Mexican supply chain keeps ramping up its success.
