The tenth generation of the Mercedes-Benz Class E made its debut in Mexico City surrounded by classic members of the Mercedes-Benz family. The new Class E perfectly portrays the brand’s evolution in terms of technology and design.
The Luis Adelantado gallery welcomed the renovated Class E to Mexico, along with eight previous models in an exhibition never before seen in the country. In fact, a line up like this had only been seen at the halls of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
The true star of the presentation, however, was the tenth generation of the Mercedes-Benz Class E, which is now an iconic model for the brand. The car brings a completely renovated driving experience, as it brilliantly combines a gorgeous and elegant design with innovative technology features. At the moment, only two versions are available for the Mexican audience, namely the E 200 Avantgarde and the E 200 Exclusive. However, the 250 Avantgarde and 400 Avantgarde are expected later in the year.
In terms of features, the Exclusive and Avantgarde are practically the same. The real difference is on the outside, while the Exclusive has a more commanding and elegant look, the Avantgarde has a sporty edge. Both versions include a 4-cylinder inline turbo engine and a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, capable of delivering 184 hp and 300 Nm.
The Class E brings two high-definition, 12.3 in displays, joined under a flawless glass surface, one of them directly in front of the driver and the other above the central console. The equipment includes an active emergency servo brake capable of alerting the driver in case of an imminent collision, support them in any emergency braking situation, and autonomously braking the car if necessary. Additionally, the Attention Assist system can notify the driver of any signs of tiredness and lack of attention, while the Crosswind Assist can help the driver minimize the effects of strong lateral wind conditions.
Mercedes-Benz also brings four optional features to both models that are state-of-the-art technology. Its MULTIBEAM LED headlights are capable of illuminating the road with clarity and precision, without glaring the drivers going in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, PRE-SAFE® Lateral Impulse and PRE-SAFE® Sound protect the passengers in case of an accident, moving the passengers away from danger and alerting with a sound. Finally, with Drive Pilot and Distronic, the car can maintain the same speed and distance behind another vehicle of up to 210 km/h. The system includes an active assistant for lane changing, and it is intelligent enough to brake the car on its own when it detects the driver is not entirely in control of the vehicle. These features made the Class E worthy of receiving the first plate for autonomous driving tests in the state of Nevada for any car under production.
Classy and beautiful inside and out, the new Mercedes-Benz Class E is the perfect statement of what the brand seeks in terms of style and innovation.
